Step 1 — Significant Contrast Table
Why Lucina is Categorically Different
This table presents the significant differences between Lucina Egg Bank's immediately available frozen egg model and the traditional agency or fresh cycle approach — not as a marketing claim, but as a verifiable clinical and operational reality.
200% Significant Difference
The difference between Lucina and a traditional agency is not incremental — it is structural. When you work with Lucina, eggs are available today, not after 6–18 months. The process moves at your timeline, not a donor's availability. This changes everything: your cost, your timeline, your risk, and your outcome.

Step 6 — Embryo Creation
Receive Eggs & Start Embryo Creation
Whether you work with your own IVF clinic or choose Lucina/RSMC in-house, this page explains what happens after eggs are received and what to expect at each stage.
Option A — Your Own IVF Clinic
Upon egg receipt
Your clinic receives the cryogenic shipping tank and verifies the egg count against the manifest. Lucina provides the Oocyte Warming SOP and thawing video in advance.
Egg warming (Day 1)
Eggs are warmed using the Lucina protocol. Lucina achieves 92.2% survival — your clinic should expect a similar rate. Any deviations should be reported to Lucina within 24 hours.
ICSI fertilization (Day 1)
Mature (MII) eggs are fertilized via ICSI using the sperm source. Fertilization check at 16–18 hours. Normal fertilization rate from Lucina cohorts: 89.1%.
Option B — Lucina In-House / RSMC

RSMC serves as Lucina Egg Bank's recipient lab. Below is a possible fee breakdown for in-house embryo creation and subsequent procedures — itemized, with most fees charged only when they happen.

2
Egg warming & ICSI
Eggs are warmed per Lucina's oocyte warming protocol. ICSI is performed immediately on mature eggs. Results reported within 24 hours.
3
Embryo culture — Day 3 to Day 5/6
Embryos are cultured in a controlled incubator environment to Day 5 or 6 (blastocyst stage). Regular monitoring is performed. You receive daily updates from your Lucina coordinator.
4
PGT-A biopsy (if selected)
Blastocysts are biopsied and samples sent to a genetics laboratory. Results return in 7–14 days. Only chromosomally normal (euploid) embryos are recommended for transfer.

Our Process
Donor Eggs Purchase / Shipping / Embryo Process Step by Step
Three phases, from selecting your donor to creating embryos.
← Back to Journey Steps
Phase 1: Select your donor and purchase the eggs
1
Account Creation & Database
Register on Lucina's portal to gain immediate access to our 3,500+ immediate ready, medically qualified donor cohorts.
2
Donor Selection & "Face matching" AI facilitation
  • Browse detailed profiles including educational/family background, adult and childhood photos, and genetic carrier screening reports and more.
  • If you want a donor who physically resembles you or your partner, or any face you desire, Lucina's ReflEggction AI (face-matching AI) can help you find 25–28 donors from Lucina Egg Bank in 30 seconds.
  • Compare your short-list donors, look into details of the donor profile, genetic reports and finalize your donor/donors.
3
Price Review & Guarantee Programs
Decide on the donor, the price, how many eggs you need and choose the right guarantee program:
  • Blastocyst Embryo Guarantee — zero premium, default for all purchases
  • PGT-A Guarantee — Premium applies, qualified IVF center only
  • Comprehensive Live Birth Guarantee — minimum 3 cohorts, carrier qualifications apply.
4
Purchase Agreement & Payment
  • Contact Lucina consultant to complete the transaction.
  • Execute the purchase agreement which outlines legal anonymity, IP ownership rights, and terms of use. Complete payment for your chosen cohorts.
Phase 2: Choose Lucina Inhouse IVF for Embryo Creation OR Arrange Shipping Donor Eggs to Your IVF Clinic
5
Choose your embryo path
Decide on whether to use Lucina Inhouse IVF center for embryo creation (fastest track, save at least 5–6 weeks for shipping and processing) OR arrange shipping Donor Eggs to outside IVF clinic.
6
If choosing outside IVF center for embryo creation / Arrange Shipping
  • If choosing outside IVF center for embryo creation: Your dedicated Lucina coordinator will contact the Lab Director or Embryologist at outside IVF clinic. They will synchronize shipping logistics and verify egg warming protocol to ensure the highest possible survival rate when the eggs are thawed.
  • Arrange Shipping: Shipping is scheduled precisely around your clinic's operating days. The donor eggs are securely packed into a specialized, temperature-monitored "dry shipper" and transported via medical courier.
Phase 3: Laboratory Embryo Creation Process (inhouse or outside IVF center)
7
Sperm Sample Preparation
On the designated lab day, the intended father (or selected sperm donor) provides a fresh semen sample, or the lab prepares a previously frozen sample.
8
Warming (Thawing) the Eggs
The clinic's embryologist carefully retrieves your donor cohort from cryogenic storage and performs a delicate, multi-step warming procedure.
9
Fertilization via ICSI
To maximize success with vitrified eggs, the lab will use ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), where a single high-quality sperm is precisely injected directly into each mature, surviving egg.
10
Embryo Culture (Days 1 to 7)
The fertilized eggs are placed in specialized incubators. The lab evaluates them the following morning for successful fertilization, then cultures them for 5, 6, or 7 days until they hopefully reach the advanced blastocyst stage.
11
Genetic Testing (Optional PGT-A)
If you opt for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A) to ensure chromosomal normalcy, the embryologist will safely biopsy a few cells from the outer layer of the blastocyst. The blastocysts are then re-frozen while you await genetic results and prepare the designated uterine lining (intended mother or gestational carrier) for the upcoming Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET).

4. Guarantee Provisions
Provision 01 · Eligibility
Sperm Quality Requirements
  • Motility and Concentration: Total motile sperm must count at 5 million or greater.
  • Morphology: Strict morphology must evaluate at 1% or higher.
  • Sperm Source: Ejaculated semen only.
  • Prohibited Procedures: Cases utilizing surgical extractions—such as MESA, TESE, or TESA—are strictly excluded from guaranteed eligibility.
Provision 02 · Lab Standards
Outside IVF Center Qualifications & Lab Protocol
  • Protocol Adherence: The outside IVF center must follow Lucina's official egg thawing protocol with absolutely zero deviations. Prior written consent from the lab is mandatory. Any deviation voids all replacement and refund protections.
  • Authorized Personnel: The egg thaw process and subsequent embryo creation must be performed exclusively by senior embryology staff, defined as the Lab Director, Lab Manager, or Lab Supervisor.
  • Parent's Responsibility of Choosing outside IVF center and oversight on protocol implementation: Intended Parents share the responsibility of verifying that their chosen clinic signs off and adheres fully to this protocol.
Provision 03 · Carrier Criteria
Live Birth — Carrier Requirements if applicable
  • Age Limitation: The designated gestational carrier must be 44 years old or younger at the time of the scheduled embryo transfer.
  • Medical Clearances: The carrier's complete reproductive history—including past IVF cycles, uterine ultrasounds, hysteroscopy findings, and relevant clinical documentation—must be submitted to and formally approved by Lucina's Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) specialist prior to treatment.
  • Transfer Rules: All viable embryos generated from the purchased cohorts must be systematically transferred to the approved carrier before any new cohorts are released.
  • Program Term: The Live Birth Guarantee framework remains valid for exactly three (3) years starting from the initial contract signature date.
Donor Authentication
Lucina Egg Donor Authentication Process
← Back to Journey Steps
1. Legal obligation

All Lucina Donors have signed two separate legal documents before donation:

Acceptance Agreement
When they first start the donation process.
Egg Donation Agreement & Consents
This legal contract set happens approximately 2 months after the "Acceptance Agreement", after medical screening and vetting process.
Under Oath

Donors also understand they are subject to perjury and liable to all damages if they deliberately lie or submit misinformation.

The double legal process is to ensure authenticity of donor information submitted.

2. Lucina Donor Authentication process
1
Donor interviews and verification
Multiple interviews conducted with donor, in person and via zoom/face call.
2
Donor's Diploma and photo ID verification
Donor needs to hold up their photo ID and Diploma or any talent certificate for verification purpose during the interview.
3
Onsite visit to medical center

Every Lucina donor is required to come in person to Lucina inhouse medical center for at least 2 times, one for medical screening and another one for egg retrieval.

During the visit, Lucina staff will in-person verify their ID, their photo, their diploma; sometimes with Donor permission to video tape the donor live for 30 seconds. (only 30% of donors agree to be videotaped due to privacy concerns).

Conclusion

We verify donor information in person and via live video interviews with donors. Also, we double the legal documents with donor and let the donor digest the information and understand the legal consequences if false information submitted.

However, we do admit Lucina Egg Bank has zero authority to investigate donors beyond reasonable efforts, we cannot guarantee 100% truism of all donor information.

Donor / IP Genetic Testing
Why Do We Conduct Donor Genetic Testing?
← Back to Journey Steps

When matching an egg donor, your future child's health is our absolute priority. Lucina utilizes the advanced Natera Horizon 421 panel to screen our donors for 97% of all known genetic related conditions. The core purpose of this rigorous screening is to detect and eliminate severe, life-altering X-linked "killer" genes.

100%
Eliminating High-Risk X-Link Specific Genes

X-link Specific — such as Duchenne / Becker Muscular Dystrophy, Fragile X Syndrome, and X-Linked Adrenoleukodystrophy — are carried on the X chromosome.

Because biological males inherit only one X chromosome (from the egg), a male child inheriting an X-linked mutation has no backup healthy gene. This often results in severe, debilitating, or fatal health outcomes.

Testing our donors ensures these high-risk genes are intercepted and excluded from our database.

421
Identifying Carrier Genes for the Donor

First, every human being is a "carrier" for random recessive mutations. Super majority of the Carriers show zero symptoms and have no family history of disease; they are perfectly healthy.

By pre-screening our donors' entire 421-gene profile, we map out their recessive traits ahead of time so they can be safely cross-checked against the sperm provider.

Donor / IP Genetic Testing
IP Donor Cross Checking
How Do We Conduct the Genetic Cross-Check between Donor and Father / Sperm provider?
← Back to Journey Steps

To guarantee a safe match, we run a strict, step-by-step parallel review before your fertility clinic ever thaws an egg.

1
The Donor Profile is Set
Every donor in Lucina's database has already completed her genetic testing. We have her full report on file.
2
The Sperm Provider is Tested
The intended father (or chosen sperm donor) undergoes genetic carrier screening via Horizon 421 panel. (can be conducted through home-testing kit).
3
The Parallel Comparison

Lucina's clinical team reviews both reports side-by-side to ensure total biological compatibility:

  • The X-Linked Specific gene elimination: We verify every donor is clear of severe X-linked conditions.
  • The Recessive Check: We ensure the donor and the sperm provider do not overlap on the same recessive traits. If both parties are carriers for the same condition, there is a 25% chance with each pregnancy that the child will inherit both mutated genes and be born with the condition.
The Bottom Line
A "Green Light" from our genetic cross-check means the high-risk conditions listed on the Natera 421 panel have been successfully blocked, giving your family the healthiest possible head start.
